Transition to Independence

Transitioning to independence refers to the process of equipping individuals with disabilities with the resources, rights, and support systems needed to successfully move into adulthood and self-sufficiency. These resources collectively support individuals in gaining autonomy, seeking employment, as well as community integration.

Transfer of Rights

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) through GVRA help students with disabilities prepare for work through career counseling, hands-on training, education guidance, and self-advocacy support, fostering independence and employment readiness.

Community Based

Community-Based Waivers from DBHDD help individuals with disabilities live independently by covering personal care, job support, and therapy services.

Social Security

The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides financial assistance to individuals with disabilities through programs like SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). These benefits help cover basic living expenses, healthcare, and support services for those who qualify.

GVRA

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) offers Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services to help individuals with disabilities gain employment. VR provides career counseling, job training, education support, and workplace accommodations to promote independence and career success.
